from A Map of the Peninsula

...
These contour lines and layered browns
are mountains, this cartographic line
of blue that picks up thin blue streams,
a river drying in the ocean's far
too democratic green. Soak the map
in rain and when this cheap dye runs
only glaciers and the river names remain.

  1. only glaciers and the river names remain--I love it. What will remain of us? this blog site?

  2. And not even glaciers will remain, given global warming. And river names are so ephemeral. No pun intended.

I'm pretty sure our Facebook pages will remain for a year or two...
